Some shapes are so tied to a moment in design history that you can date a dinner party just by looking at the table settings — and the avocado dish is one of them. This set of six matching stainless steel dishes was made in that unmistakable mid-century silhouette: an oval, teardrop-shaped basin balanced on a neat circular pedestal, polished to a soft reflective shine. Set them out together and they instantly read as a moment, not just a set of bowls.

Avocado dishes had their heyday in the mid-20th century, when the avocado itself was still an exotic, glamorous ingredient rather than a breakfast staple — a whole genre of tableware sprang up just to serve it properly, halved and dressed with vinaigrette, at dinner parties that wanted to feel a little continental. A matching set like this one, in durable stainless steel rather than fragile china, was built to survive exactly that kind of regular use, and it has.

This set presents in good vintage condition, with light signs of previous use consistent with its age — the stainless steel remains bright and fully functional throughout, with the kind of gentle, honest wear that comes from decades of real dinner parties rather than a shelf.
