Vintage Art Deco Style Champagne and Wine Cooler, Chrome-Finish Ribbed Ice Bucket with Twin Handles, 20 cm
In the late 1920s, chrome plating moved out of the factory and into the home. Bright, hard and easy to keep clean, it suited the new taste for streamlined, modern design, and it soon appeared on cocktail shakers, lamps, car trim and barware. In the cafés and hotel bars of Europe, a gleaming bucket of ice beside the table became part of the ritual of opening a bottle of Champagne.
This cooler carries on that look. Its tall, slightly flared body is plain at the top and banded below with four rounded ribs, which narrow towards a smooth base. The ribs are decorative, but they also stiffen the walls, a practical reason they appear so often on metal vessels of this kind. Two flat, angled handles sit just under the rim, making it easy to lift even when full of ice and water.
The cooler is in good condition, with a bright, reflective finish, as pictured. We are pleased to pass it on, ready for its next celebration. Sized for a single bottle, it suits a bar cart, a sideboard or the centre of a dinner table.
In short, this is a vintage Art Deco style champagne and wine cooler in chrome-finish metal, with a ribbed body and twin handles. It is 20 cm (7.9 in) tall, and it is sold exactly as pictured.
