Vintage Burgundy Leather and Gold-Tone Metal Letter Rack, Directoire Style Outswept Corner Feet

Deep burgundy leather sits inside a frame of gold-tone metal, and four corner posts curve out at the bottom like small sabres. It keeps the post in order and looks good doing it.

The letter rack has burgundy leather panels set in a gold-tone metal frame, with banded edges. At each corner, a post flares outward at the top and sweeps out again into a curved foot. Legs that curve outward like this are often called sabre legs, after the curved cavalry sword. They were a favourite of Directoire and Regency furniture makers around 1800, and later designers borrowed them for desk sets.

The letter rack is in good vintage condition, with tarnish and dark marks on the metal. It has kept letters in order on other desks, and it's ready to do the same on yours. It suits a writing desk, a home office or a hall table for incoming post.
