Vintage Empire Style Three-Light Bouillotte Lamp with Adjustable Green Tôle Shade

On a desk, a card table or a library shelf, a lamp like this throws a pool of warm light straight down where you need it, and keeps the glare out of your eyes.

The lamp has a heavy round dished base with a decorated rim. From the centre rises a slim rod with a ring at the top. Three fluted candle cups stand around the rod, each holding a candle sleeve. A dark green shade, edged with a gold laurel band, slides up and down the rod to set the height of the light. The shade is tôle, thin sheet iron that was painted and lacquered. The lacquer stopped rust, and the light-coloured inside bounced the light back down onto the table.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with a few light scratches. It has been well cared for and is ready for a new desk or side table. It suits a study, a library corner or a bedside table.

Bouillotte at a glance: an Empire style three-light lamp with a dished base, fluted candle cups and an adjustable green and gold tôle shade, rewired and ready to use.
