Vintage Pair of 1970s Space Age Curled Chrome-Tone Metal Wall Sconces

A ribbon of mirror-bright metal, curled around a round bulb: in the 1970s, this was what a wall light of the future looked like.

Each sconce is made from a band of polished chrome-toned metal that curls around on itself in an open spiral. A round cut-out at the front frames a globe bulb, so the bulb itself becomes part of the design. When lit, the curved metal throws reflections up and down the wall. Many Space Age designers liked to make lights from a single sheet of metal, cut and bent like folded paper. It was an economical way to make a shape that looked like sculpture.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition. The metal edges are thin and can be sharp, so handle them with care. The old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair since the 1970s and are ready for a new wall. Hang them in a hallway, a bathroom or either side of a bed.

Ribbon pair: two 1970s curled chrome-tone metal sconces with a round cut-out for a globe bulb, rewired and sold as a pair.
