Vintage Pair of Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal Two-Arm Candle Wall Sconces with Urn Crest

A pair of candle sconces turns an ordinary dinner into something closer to an occasion. Light two candles on each, and the wall glows the way it did before electricity.

Each sconce has a short, tapering shaft with fluting and a collar of acanthus leaves. At the top is a small urn hung with drapery and crowned with a pine-cone finial. Two smooth curved arms reach out to the sides, and each ends in a ribbed cup set on a round dish. The cup that holds the candle is called a nozzle. The flat dish beneath it is the drip pan, which catches falling wax before it reaches the floor.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, with light signs of age. They have stayed together as a pair and are ready to hold candles again. Hang them in a dining room, on either side of a mirror or above a console.
