Between the wars, electric light reached the bedroom in many European homes for the first time. A pair of small lamps, one on each side of the bed, became an affordable comfort, and makers produced them in classic shapes borrowed from the candlestick, which already felt familiar at the bedside.

This pair of small table lamps, attributed to the 1930s–50s, follows that candlestick form. Each stands on a round, stepped base, rising to a tapered column ringed with a fine beaded collar, then to a turned neck and a cup that holds the bulb fitting. The brass has a two-tone finish. Brass was often given a brown, bronzed surface by chemical treatment, with the raised edges then polished back to bright gold, so that every ring and bead stands out against the darker ground.

The lamps are in good condition, with no distortion, and the patina shows some spots and minor scratches from use. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. With a pair of small shades, they suit two nightstands, a dressing table or a narrow shelf.
