Vintage Single Louis XVI Style Bronze-Tone Torch Wall Sconce with Acanthus Arm and Hanging Shade Holder
A blazing torch tied with a ribbon makes the backbone of this sconce, with a single leafy arm reaching out to hold the light below.
The back plate is shaped like a fluted torch topped with carved flames and tied at the middle with a ribbon bow, with an arrow tip just visible. A long acanthus leaf rises behind it, and a leaf-and-berry drop finishes the base. From the side, a scrolled acanthus arm curves out and down to a bell-shaped holder edged with leaves. The holder has small screws to grip a glass shade that would hang below the bulb. The deep brown finish is often called a medal patina, a chemical colouring named after the warm tone of bronze medals.
The sconce is in very good vintage condition, with a darkened patina, and the old wiring reaches us as found. It's sold without a shade. It has kept its crisp detail and is ready for a new wall. Hang it beside a doorway, a mirror or a single bed.
