Antique French Louis XVI Style Brass Cassolette Urn with Flame Finial and Rose Garland, Neoclassical Mantel Ornament, Circa 1880–1920
A carved flame leaps from the lid of this classical urn, the neoclassical symbol of eternal light, while a garland of full-blown roses and leaves is swagged around its rounded body. The cup narrows to a turned pedestal on a crisp square plinth, giving the piece a calm, architectural poise. Heavy in the hand, with a mellow, time-worn golden patina, it makes a striking ornament on a mantelpiece, a bookcase or a desk, either alone or as part of a classical arrangement.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with historic wear and ageing to the gold lacquer finish, and small fixing holes in the body and base.
