Vintage 1980s Gold-Plated Brass Nautical-Style Table Lamp – "SS Kansas City" Maritime Signal Lamp Design, Glass Dome Shade

Long before electric light was reliable at sea, ships carried brass signal lamps built to survive salt air, rough hands, and long nights on deck — heavy, over-engineered, fitted with dials, chains, and canisters that had to work when nothing else could be trusted. Its brass body carries the unmistakable vocabulary of a ship's lamp: twin canisters hung on fine chains, a dial-fitted control housing, and an engraved plaque reading "SS Kansas City 1889" — a nod to the great age of transatlantic steam and the golden era of railroad expansion, when brass fittings like these were built to last a lifetime of service.

The glass dome above is soft and pale, almost the colour of old parchment, diffusing light the way ship's glass once had to — enough to see by, gentle enough not to blind a watchman at night.
